MIEM was created to provide professional development activities for all school personnel. Nominate yourself or another school administrative professional for MIEM's 2009 Crystal Award. The MIEM Crystal Award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding performance, achievements, and contributions of individuals who work in support staff positions within Michigan school districts.

Crystal Award recipients receive recognition at the 23rd Annual MIEM Support Staff Conference for Administrative Professionals on November 5-6, 2009 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Grand Rapids.

Michigan Department of Education 2009 Assessment & Accountability Conference

August 25, 2009 – Northern Michigan University – Marquette
September 21, 2009 – DeVos Place – Grand Rapids
September 28, 2009 – Rock Financial Showplace – Novi

This special one-day conference is designed for MEAP Coordinators, MME Testing Staff, MI-Access Coordinators, MEAP-Access Coordinators, ELPA Coordinators, NAEP School Coordinators, Curriculum Coordinators, Assessment Specialists and School Administrators. This conference features 40 informational clinic sessions.

Renewing Our Commitment to ALL Children–The Annual Homeless Education Conference

September 13-15, 2009 Location: Kellogg Center, East Lansing

Join us for the Annual Homeless Education Conference, featuring keynote addresses by Barbara Duffield, Policy Director of the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth; Phillip Lovell, Vice President of Education for First Focus; and Diane Nilan, Founder and President of Hear Us, Inc. Breakout sessions will focus on McKinney-Vento Law 101 & 201; Foster Care; Title I; Housing First; Domestic Violence; Tutoring; Special Education; Project Homeless Connect; Collaboration; Transportation Strategies; Unaccompanied Youth; Data Collection and Reporting; and Higher Education.

Registration is only $65 for all three days. Two nights lodging and conference meals are FREE for school staff and their invited collaborative partners for this conference. Other agency and organization staff are welcome to register and attend the conference at the $65 fee but will need to cover their own overnight lodging.

MSBO & SAPC Certification

Are you looking to start or complete your certification? Registration is now open for MSBO and SAPC Certification Classes for 2009-10 through MIEM. This program is a great kick-start for your career. If you have more than five years of school experience, a waiver of classes may be made through grandparenting. Obtaining certification demonstrates a dedication to your profession and offers a base of useful information taught by seasoned practitioners. School districts that hire business officials and support staff believe that certification matters. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
